He started his career as a member of the Brussels bar in Mr. W. Van Landuyt’s law firm where he gained experience in general law practice. He specialised in contracting law and liability law such as the problem concerning the damage of underground cables and pipes following construction work. He was section chief of the Bureau van Consultatie en Verdediging (Bureau of Consultation and Defence) for three years.

Received his law degree from the UA (Antwerp) in 1984. Has been a member of the Brussels bar since 1984.
